This project is located in a small neighborhood, with relatively small lots. Privacy, drive movements, and drainage were of utmost concern. In addition, the clients' international travels influenced a clean aesthetic. The plans and details relied on bold, simple gestures, like the rectangular wading pool/fountain and the oversized, but understated custom limestone plinths that bookend broad turf steps to the rear lawn. The fountain was designed to be seen and heard from multiple loci: the front door, the bedroom, and the rear terrace. The master bath looks into a Japanese inspired private garden, hidden behind the gate at the terminus of the fountain. The fountain is flanked by 4 single-stem Sweetbay Magnolia, a rarity.
